Big integer checksum

I’m really thinking about writing a function exactly like checksum, but it returns a big integer .

I frequently use checksum to prototype a surrogate key.

Having a larger integer result from the checksum function would make this a lot less likely to have duplicate results.

Seems like a no brainier to me.

Maybe I would be better off finding something like md5.. I just can’t handle large text fields or unique identifiers for keys in a database.

Does anyone know of a simpler solution than rewriting checksum?
